I know that the phrase “achieve success by taking more vacations” sounds like an oxymoron but it is true and many people are taking advantage of this opportunity.

Before I go further into this topic, I would like to ask you a few questions. If you answer “NO” to any of these questions, I would suggest you stop reading and go read another post on this blog because this topic will not interest you.

  1. Do you enjoy taking vacations?
  2. Does just the thought of taking a very nice vacation excite you?
  3. Are there other parts of the world you would enjoy seeing?
  4. Have you ever wanted to take an extra vacation (above what your company policy allows) but didn’t think your boss would allow it?
  5. If you had the time and money, would you like to take more vacations?
  6. Do you feel like you are still young enough and healthy enough to take vacations?
  7. Would you have to have more time freedom to take more than four one-week vacations per year?
  8. Would it require additional income to take more than four one-week vacations per year?
  9. Would you like to know how all of this is possible?

If you answered “YES” to all of the above questions then you are still reading. I do not have statistics that show how many Americans would answer “YES” to all of the questions but my guess is it would be pretty high. Before I get to the details of the answer to the above questions, I would like to tell you about a vacation that my family and I took in 2009 to Destin Florida. My daughter, who is a physical therapy student at the University of South Alabama, had to do what is called a “clinical rotation” last year. This means that she would choose a location that was available and spend 10 days at their clinic and do physical therapy work under the doctor’s supervision. After the 10 days, the doctor would send an evaluation  to the school on Erin’s performance.

This required that Erin have a place to stay for 10 days, and since she did not have family or a friend in the area to stay with, we decided to rent a condo and make a family vacation out of this. We found a two bedroom condo right across the street from the beach in Destin and it cost a little over $1,700.00. If I had known then what I know now, I could have saved a tremendous amount of money on this vacation.

Over the last 27 years, our family has taken many vacations and we have stayed in some very nice resorts. I did not achieve success by taking more vacations because this opportunity was not available at the time.
